Outside the Classroom

Service

Students who serve are students who grow.
Scripture is clear that we are to live in sacrificial service to our community and our world, and we aim to help our students grow in this way. In our Upper School, twice a year our Citadel plans Jump-Out Day—an all-day event in which students perform service projects in various locations throughout our community.

In total, our 9th through 12th graders are required to fulfill 20 service hours per year, a meaningful opportunity for our students and families that encourages accountability and a service mindset throughout the year.
One of the highlights of the year is Spirit Week, a 30-year-long partnership we've had with John 3:16 Mission. During this week-long food drive, students break down into teams and compete with one another, earning points for Scripture memory, silly costumes, and for bringing food donations to John 3:16 Mission. For the last several years, MVC has been their single largest food contributor, donating many tens of thousands of pounds of food! You can read more about this effort here and here.
