Friday Emails

We encourage you check your emails each Friday for your weekly Friday email. We'll keep recent versions here, if you need a reminder!

Week of September 17-21

Friday, September 21 from 6-8 pm is our annual School Picnic on MVC grounds! ALL MVC families are warmly encouraged to attend--we’ll have a giant inflatable, games (with prizes!), delicious dinner concessions, and some fun surprises. Don’t miss it! The west parking lot will be blocked off for games and fun. You may park in the secondary (east) lot, along the street (unless prohibited by signs), or at the Union school down the street. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE CHURCH ACROSS THE STREET--they will be having services at that time, and we want to be considerate neighbors.

You may have noticed that we’re doing spirit wear a little differently this year. To keep merchandise costs low, we’re no longer stocking inventory--spirit wear will be offered to you via online purchasing for brief windows of time (in other words, if you see something you like, you should buy it then!). Sales will be conducted either on our own website or at BSN Sports, and we’ll notify you via the Friday email when sales are live. You are never obligated to purchase items--they’re simply available to you if you want them. To help you budget and plan, here’s a look ahead at sales for the rest of the semester (all dates but the first are approximate):

·  There is a sale live right now at mingovalley.org/store. The DEADLINE to place an order is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17. These shirts will be delivered to your student during the first week of October.

·  From 9/21-10/5, the high school Fall Retreat t-shirt will be available for purchase, and it will be delivered a few days before the kids leave on the retreat.

·  From 9/28-10/12, BSN Sports will host a huge sale for all MVC families offering Eagles’ Basketball gear. Items will be delivered in early November.

·  From 10/12-10/26, just like last year, we’ll offer a Blue Crew shirt to all secondary students--the cost of the shirt will include the student’s admission to all home basketball games, so it’s like a student season ticket! It will be delivered before the first home game.

·  If there’s enough interest, we’re considering offering some special items in mid-November for parents who want to give unique MVC spirit wear as a Christmas gift. Let us know if you like the idea!

LUNCH VISITORS: If you, a family member, or friend plan to have lunch with your child, please keep the following in mind:

  • Anyone other than a parent or grandparent must get permission from the front office 24 hours ahead of time to eat with a student in cafeteria. This includes a sibling or friend who attends another school.

  • If a guest plans to order a lunch from our cafeteria, you must call the office before 9 and order a meal. Items are not available a la carte.

  • We have two tables reserved for visitors or they may sit with their student’s class.  Ask a volunteer / Carol Cherry if you need help finding where to sit.

  • Please DO NOT bring food for your student’s classmates without permission from the teacher, due to food allergies / restrictions.

Jump rope team will begin practice Tuesday October 2nd.  All interested 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders please plan to attend the first practice from 3:05-4:15 on October 2nd.  Interested parents may contact Mrs. Chatham with questions.

We are looking for a couple more lunch/recess volunteers--specifically, on Wednesday and Fridays from 9:30-12 each week. Contact Carol Cherry to volunteer (you’ll need to fill out a volunteer application first).

SECONDARY parents: important retreat dates are coming up!

  • Middle school (6th-8th) retreat: Oct 21-23 | leave MVC 1:30 | return from New Life Ranch at 3:30

  • High school (9th-12th) retreat: Oct 17- 19 | leave MVC 3:30 | return from New Life Ranch by 5 PM

If you have photos of school sports, field trips, etc., we might feature them on social media or the yearbook! Please send them to photos@mingovalley.org with a description of the grade and activity in the pictures.

All sophomores will take the Pre-ACT on Tuesday, September 25th.  They will complete the pre-administration paperwork on Friday, September 21st.  Please be sure that your sophomore student is at school both days.

Senior parents: The College Planning Workshop is on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 PM. You won't want to miss this helpful evening! We encourage all seniors to attend, with at least one parent.

To allow us to order the shirts and get them to you by the first week of October, the DEADLINE TO ORDER IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17--so order fast! If you ordered a bright blue 2018-19 class shirt for yourself or your student, be on the lookout for the shirt(s) to come home with your child next week.

If you have a 6-12th grade daughter interested in cheer/pom make sure you have communicated her interest via email to Mrs. Chatham.  A short parent meeting will be at 4PM on September 26th in the auditorium after uniform fittings.

The PSAT will be given at MVC on Wednesday, October 10th to all freshmen and sophomores, and to select juniors (who signed up for the test).  The pre-administration paperwork will be completed on Friday, October 5th.  Please make every effort for your students to be present on both days. Questions? Email Mrs. Morton.

Save the date! Jump Out (a day when secondary students "jump out" into the community for a day of service) is Tuesday, October 2. More details to follow soon. We need drivers to transport kids to and from the sites--please contact Amber Hermes if you can help or have questions.

A group from Mingo Valley is running in the Tulsa Run. If you’d like to be a part of this, sign up to be part of our school team--it will save you significantly on the cost. This is open to parents, students, and faculty/staff. Our team name is “Mingo Valley Christian” with the password gobigblue. Questions? Contact Nate Madden.

Last call to host a booth at the School Family Picnic on September 21. (Think simple carnival games--ideas here and here.) Space is limited, so if you’re interested, please contact Shannon Lowe ASAP.

Week of September 3-7

Happy Friday!

There is no school on Monday, September 3rd, for Labor Day. See you Tuesday!

If you have photos of school sports, field trips, etc., we might feature them on social media or the yearbook! Please send them to photos@mingovalley.org with a description of the grade and activity in the pictures.

Please remember that all students and parents must use the crosswalks in the parking lot during school and pick-up and drop-off. Please, no jay-walking, for the safety of everyone!

Speaking of the parking lot, if you come to the school during school hours, please do not park in the row of spots adjacent to the fenced playground or the row underneath the basketball goals. We use those areas for students to play in. Thanks!

Remember to check the MVC PARENTS tab on our website (mingovalley.org) for all sorts of useful information. Just added this week--a direct link to our varsity sports schedules. (Included on that page is a link to Immanuel Lutheran’s football program, which some of our high school boys participate in.) Come cheer on your Eagles!

Gentle reminder on dress-code approved haircuts for boys: Short hair on sides with fuller on top is fine, but please take care not to lean too far toward a mohawk. Thank you.

Our School Family Picnic, for all MVC families, is September 21 at 6 pm on the school grounds. Want to design/setup/host a game or booth? (Think simple carnival games--ideas here and here. Your creativity is encouraged and welcomed! Space is limited, so if you’re interested, please contact Shannon Lowe ASAP.

Enjoy your long weekend!

Some of you may be receiving some Remind messages twice. This is a problem on their end and their tech support is working on it. We’re sorry for the inconvenience--thanks for your patience.

Speaking of Remind--these text alerts are a great tool for us to send you alerts, but our faculty and staff still prefer email as a primary means of communication to hear from you, and email is your quickest way to get a response. PLEASE DO NOT USE REMIND TO REPORT THAT YOUR CHILD WILL BE ABSENT. You should report absences by emailing Mrs. Chatham, or calling her office at 918.294.0404, ext 202.

Citadel Convocation is during secondary chapel, this Thursday, August 30, at 8 am. Elementary skate night is TONIGHT from 6-8, at the Rhema Ninowski Center in BA. Younger and older siblings are welcome! $5 per skater. Dinner concessions available.

School pictures (K4-11th grade) are on Thursday, August 23.  Secondary students should wear chapel dress, and elementary students should wear standard dress code. We still need a couple volunteers to help with traffic flow during pictures from 8:15 to noon--if you can help, please email Shannon Lowe.

We have two important back-to-school nights next week: ELEMENTARY is Monday, August 20, at 6:30, and SECONDARY is Thursday, August 23, at 6:30. Both events will begin in the auditorium. We strongly recommend that at least one parent from each family attend. You’ll hear from your child(ren)'s teacher(s) and the administration about curriculum, policies, and the year ahead. It is preferred that parents only attend this event (no students), though if the only way you can attend is to bring your kids, that is fine.

Our girls’ volleyball season is off to an amazing start! Here’s their schedule--come out and support your Eagles!

You can sign up for text alerts by visiting mingovalley.org/remind (password is gobigblue). The codes are there, and you can scroll to the bottom of the page for instructions. A couple Remind codes you should take special note of:

  • If you regularly use before/after-school care, please text @mvcafter to 81010 in the event of important news we need to tell you.
