THE ARTS AT MINGO

MUSIC
CHORAL MUSIC:
Mingo students are involved in choral music throughout their elementary years, and given opportunities throughout the year to let their talent shine.  In the High School, students may enroll in Choral Ensemble which performs throughout  the year and competes at the Tri-State Music Festival each year.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC:
Beginning in K4, students are taught the fundamentals of instrumental music and their skills progress throughout the years by using rhythm instruments, hand bells, recorders , piano and guitar.  Afterschool band instruction begins in 6th grade and student may join the Instrumental Ensemble in High School.  In addition to performing thorough out the year, this group provides music for our spring musical production and competes at the Tri-State Music Festival each year.

ART
All students at Mingo receive art instruction which explores a variety of media and includes a look at art thoughout history.  Secondary students compete in a variety of art contests as they continue to refine their skills and knowledge of art history. The school has two arts show a year, allowing each level a chance to exhibit their work.

 

DRAMA 
Our Drama department produces two shows each year. The fall show is a drama that is presented dinner theatre style and dessert is served during intermission. In recent years The Diary of Anne FrankThe Miracle Worker, and You Can’t Take It with You have been presented. The spring production is a full musical, with our own instrumental ensemble providing the accompaniment. Past musicals have included The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Brigadoon, and Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

All secondary students are able to audition for the productions.  Students are also able to be involved with the plays through set building, technical assistance, hair and make-up, and backstage assistance.
