Activities
- Student Leadership
MVCS students are encouraged to apply their knowledge and practice their leadership potential by serving their school, family, community, and church through many different clubs.
Student leadership development is the process of involving students in meaningful ways both in and beyond the classroom. It provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents, skills, and interests while continuing to develop new skills. It also gives students more ownership of the programs they attend.
All students enrolled at MVCS are encouraged to participate in one or more leadership programs.
Chapel Leadership Team
Students have an opportunity to serve on the Chapel Leadership Team
throughout the school year. These students, along with faculty member,
Nate Madden, meet to develop themes for the chapel services, come up
with music and speakers, and minister to the student body.
The Citadel
The Citadel is an honor society of MVCS within the Nehemiah Project. The
name Citadel is drawn from the historical fortification in Jerusalem
whose purpose was to house guards of the city. Initiation into the Citadel is dependent upon an applicant's desire to be a member, their character, and their record of service and leadership. Citadel members have ongoing opportunities for leadership development under the direction of the
Student Leadership team. Each year a Governor's Feast provides a
special night to honor all Citadel members, their families and friends, and sponsors.
MVCS Geek Squad
Our mission is three-fold:
- provide hardware and software technical support for faculty and staff
- run audio/visual services for
chapel and other school events
- produce video and PowerPoint presentations for different school events.
Key Club
Open to 9th-12th graders, Key Club is a community service club sponsored by the Kiwanis of Tulsa. Students elect officers and participate in community projects. Key Club members meet twice each month.
National Honor Society
Academically eligible students in grades 10-12 and grades 7-9 (Junior Honor
Society) participate in this honorable student organization after nomination has been approved by a Faculty Council. NHS/NHJS are sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and contributes in postsecondary scholarship form to student's educational experiences at MVCS.
Nehemiah Project
Secondary students participate in the Nehemiah Project weekly by dividing
into groups that study Worldview, Ethics/Etiquette, Discovering Purpose, and
perform community service projects. A favorite service activity in the
Nehemiah Project is the "Book and a Beanie" where high school students take
the opportunity to read with kindergartners.
Sixth Grade Leadership
One week out of the year is dedicated to emphasizing a particular character
trait to our elementary students through guest speakers, films, singing
groups, poster contests, and other challenging events. The elementary
student body is divided into teams led by a 6th grade team leader and an
adult sponsor. These teams accumulate points by team participation in daily
chapels, a food drive for the John 3:16 Mission, Scripture memory, and other
contests. The fun is enhanced with special dress-up days, skits, and plenty
of competition.
Student Leadership Council
The MVCS Student Leadership Council works to coordinate efforts between the
different organizations. On some occasions, the groups work together to
accomplish large goals, such as Operation Christmas Child.
STUCO
Student Council exists to promote spiritual growth and leadership among the
secondary students, assist in directing and managing student activities, and
provide a forum for student expression and exchange for student-faculty
views. Student Council meets weekly on Wednesday mornings. Elections for
9th-12th grades are held at the beginning of the first semester.
TGIF-Thank Goodness It's Foreign
The MVCS Foreign Language Club (TGIF) exists to aid Mingo students in"reaching other nations with the Gospel of Christ" (II Cor. 5:20).
TGIF students sponsor a little girl from Mexico and a little boy from Haiti
since Spanish and French are the two foreign languages offered at MVCS.
Students raise support for these children by providing and serving dessert at the Fall dinner theatre. TGIF also co-sponsors Operation Christmas Child
and a Spring Bible drive to send Bibles around the world.
