Extra Curricular Activities for 7th-12th Grade

Chess Team

Chess Team is an organized group which gathers on a regular basis to promote the learning of the game chess.  The meetings are typically held after school at the elementary campus.  There is a fellowship group which plays mostly for enjoyment.  There is also a Tournament Group.  This group practices and participates at chess tournaments in the Tulsa area.  To participate in the Tournament Group, the student must be a registered UCSF member.  The player will acquire a rating and be able to follow his rating throughout the year.

Fall Banquet

In the later part of the fall semester, the Student Council organizes a banquet for all secondary students to attend.  the entire evening is filled with food and fun activities that correlate with the creative theme decided upon by the Student Council.  Students come dressed to match the theme of the banquet and prizes are given away for the most creative costumes.

Fall Retreat

In the early part of the fall semester each secondary student is encouraged to attend the annual Fall Retreat.  The entire retreat is organized by Student Council members for the purpose of building school unity and to promote a greater passion for Christ in the hearts of the students.  The 2-3 day retreat is normally held at New Life Ranch and costs $60-$70 per student.  Partial scholarships are available upon request.

Field Trips

Field trips may be scheduled throughout the year for educational purposes.  Students may be asked to purchase tickets and/or lunch on these trips.  Parents are invited to accompany these groups and serve as chauffeurs.

Spelling Bee

Seventh and eighth graders may choose to participate in Mingo Valley's spell down in January.  The winner then represents MVCS in the Tulsa World Spelling Bee.  A booklet of spelling words will be distributed for study to those interested in competing.

Sports

Mingo Valley Christian School offers a fine program of interscholastic athletic competition in volleyball and cheerleading for girls, and basketball and track for both boys and girls.

  • The boys basketball program includes junior high, junior varsity and varsity levels.
  • Girls basketball is available at varsity level for girls in grades 7-12.
  • Girls volleyball includes both junior high and high school teams.
  • Cheerleading is open to all girls from 7-12th grades.
  • Track is offered to both junior high and high school boys and girls.

MVCS teams compete primarily with other Christian schools both locally and at some distance in basketball and volleyball.  Track meets involve out of town travel to select public school meets.  MVCS is a member of the Green Country Christian Athletic Conference (GCCAC) which includes 8 basketball teams.
