About MVCS - Discipline
It is the purpose of MVCS to run an institution of instruction
and not correction. However, being mindful of the importance of
discipline to a young child, as well as the welfare of the entire
school, each teacher is given the freedom to administer immediate
discipline, including corporal (spanking with a paddle) to any
child in his or her class. Much effort will be taken on the part
of the teacher and administration to keep parents well informed
on any such corporal action.
Each teacher will have a positive approach to discipline for the
purpose of helping the child instill self-discipline. Love
is the key ingredient to MVCS discipline. Teachers first
and above all try to establish good rapport through a good relationship
with each individual.
Positive Discipline Approach
Character training - The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “All have
sinned…” and Proverbs 22:15 tells us that “foolishness is bound
in the heart of a child.” We believe that behavior must be changed
from the inside out. Outward correction is necessary, but it should
be for the purpose of helping the child change on the inside.
It is important that we as teachers and parents live up to what
God is doing in our children's lives and in our lives in conforming
us all to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. This is one of the
reasons why character traits are taught at MVCS on more than just
a hit and miss schedule.
- Rewards will be given for good behavior.
- Misbehavior will result in staying in at recess, standing
in the corner, and/or missing privileges.
- Spankings will be given for defiance, continued disobedience,
fighting, lying, cheating, and/or stealing.
- A warning will be given before a spanking is administered,
so the child will have a chance to repent of his actions.
- The teacher or the principal will administer the spanking
with another staff member present. (The child will be taken to
the principal's office. The teacher will explain what he did
wrong and why it is wrong and then give 1-3 swats with a paddle.
Then, the teacher or principal will pray with the child before
entering back into the classroom.)
- Parents will be informed the same day by a note or a phone
call.
